The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Coos Bay, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Oregon are harder than the national norm, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch of Coos River - South Fork in Coos County is 6.1 miles long and is a class
II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are no other stretches to paddle along Coos River - South Fork than the Johnson Beach to below Mile 7 Bridge stretch. The beautiful scenery of Oregon and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and
paddle. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. Whitewater paddling here in the Coast Ranges is a great experience. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are not so many other good spots for that around here.
