Roaring River to South Santiam River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-II 15.5 miles
We walked/paddled from Larwood bridge to almost the 226 bridge stretch on June 3, 2007. We put in at 11am and we were about two miles from the 226 bridge (at 8pm) when we ran up on a nasty tree branch on a corner and popped the bottom of our inflatable kayak. Luckily, there was a house right there and the owner was real nice and gave us a ride to our truck! The water was VERY low and we had to walk alot of the creek. The deep parts would have been great to fish. There was a large tree across right before Richardson's Gap bridge, but we were able to slide
the boat under on the left. It was a rather miserable trip, the rocks were very slippery when trying to drag the boat through the low spots! Says Teresa B
The nature scenery of Linn County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and
paddle. The Roaring River to South Santiam River stretch of Crabtree Creek in Oregon is 15.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. The average Oregon whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. The campgrounds here at Crabtree Creek are pretty good. If you're coming from Albany-Lebanon it's
not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. There aren’t any
hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come.
Briefly about the general area: During the summer
