The Crooked River Ranch to Billy Chinook Reservoir stretch of Crooked River is 9 miles long and has been rated as a class III+(V) section by American Whitewater. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. On this section     you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. There's camping available near Crooked River. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Bend, as you can see on the road map further down. The Crooked River Ranch to Billy Chinook Reservoir section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners.
