If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The put-in is not too far from Bend, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. The Wickiup
Dam to Pringle Falls stretch of Deschutes River is 9 miles long and is a class I-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
The beautiful scenery of Oregon and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The wild scenery of the Central Cascade Range is great. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Wickiup Dam to Pringle Falls section is just one of many.
Briefly about the general area: Deschutes River is pretty arid generally; through the
month of December you get the most snow around here, and July is the month with the least moisture. Summertime highs at Deschutes River frequently tend to be in the 70's while overnight lows are usually in the 40's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's, and night
lows in the 10's for Deschutes River. A brilliant forest near Deschutes River is Pringle Falls Experimental Forest, and no need to travel far to go to interesting stuff like Bull Bend. Whohoo, so many entertaining things in one place! The Central Cascade Range rules!.
