The nature scenery of Oregon and the water flowing gracefully down Deschutes River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Oregon tend to be more challenging than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Bend, as you can see on the road map further down. This is a short paddling stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There are plenty of hotels here if
you want to spend a night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The Benham Falls to Dillon Falls section of Deschutes River in Oregon is 2.5 miles long and has been rated as a class I-V(V+) section by American Whitewater. Some people prefer
whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the summer months at Deschutes River highs are usually in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 40's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's; overnight
lows in the 10's for Deschutes River. Not much rain falls here at Deschutes River; through the month of December you get the most snow around here, and the driest month is July. A short journey to Benham Falls is always worthwhile. Dillon Falls is an inspiring place to go to while here; there are plenty of people from Bend here at Deschutes River.
