The Lava Island Falls to Mount Bachelor Village section of Deschutes River is 6 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V+ section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Oregon and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. The starting location is a short drive from Bend, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. No need to look hard for hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A good workout
and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting
and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving.
