If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. The starting location is a reasonable drive     from Bend, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This section of Deschutes River in Deschutes County is 5.2 miles long and is a class IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. The beauty of the Central Cascade Range is a great plus for this river. Briefly about the general area: Summer at Deschutes River comes with high temperatures in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows   plunge down to the 40's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Deschutes River descend into the 10's. Deschutes River gets very little rainfall; the month with most of the snow is December while July is typically the driest month. Here at Deschutes River there are plenty of people from Bend.
