This section of Deschutes River in Deschutes County is 14.5 miles long and it is classified as a class III section by American Whitewater. If you're coming from Bend it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Oregon tend to be more challenging than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming
here. No shortage of good hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not
make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camping stuff too. The beautiful scenery of Oregon and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.
Briefly about the general area: Don't leave Deschutes River without first paying a visit to Awbrey Falls. Deschutes River gets very little precipitation; during December this area sees the most snow, and July is when it's the driest. Summertime highs at Deschutes River regularly
tend to be in the 80's. During the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 40's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 30's; winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Deschutes River.
