The US 26 to Sherars Falls stretch of Deschutes River is 53 miles long and it is classified as a class III section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a short drive from City of The Dalles, as you can see on the road map further down. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The US 26 to Sherars Falls stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. There aren’t any hotels
right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for
a while will have you coming back for more. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots.
Briefly about the general area: At Deschutes River you don’t see much rain; most of the rain falls through December; July on the other hand is the driest. Mutton Mountain Spring is an inspiring place to check out during your stay, and needless to say, A tour to Lousey Hollow is always fun.
Through the warmest time of the year here at Deschutes River, high temperatures commonly get into the 80's while overnight lows are typically in the 40's. Highs all through the winter are regularly in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Deschutes River.
