CLASS III 44 miles
This stretch of Deschutes River in Oregon is 44 miles long and is a class III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The beautiful scenery of Wasco County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no
problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so better bring your camping gear along. A good workout and spending some quality
time in nature will make you glad you came. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. The put-in location is a short drive from City of The Dalles, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too.
