Oregon whitewater - Eagle Creek, Central Cascade Range, Clackamas County
Clackamas
county,
Fish Hatchery to Eagle Creek Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-V+ 11 miles
This stretch of Eagle Creek is 11 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-V+ section. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that many runs in this state are not easy. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Eagle Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Fish Hatchery
to Eagle Creek Road section is the only one. The wonderful Oregon scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Eagle Creek beats anything. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. The river winds through the Central
Cascade Range and you get great scenery. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camping stuff. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
Briefly about the general area: Summer at Eagle Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. For the duration of the dark hours of summer temperatures
fall down into the 50's. Highs during the winter are generally in the 40's with temperatures at Eagle Creek dipping down into the 30's all through winter nights. The high level of rain makes Eagle Creek a rather wet location; most of the rain falls during December while July is
the month with the least amount of precipitation. The Fall is a stunning location to explore while you're at Eagle Creek; a short journey to Middle Falls is always worthwhile. Be careful coming to the Central Cascade Range, you might not ever want to return back home again.
