If you're coming from Brookings it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wonderful Curry County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small
number of paddling spots. There are no other stretches to paddle along Elk River than the Slate Creek to Elk River Hatchery stretch. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whitewater paddling
here in the Coast Ranges is a great experience. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The average Oregon whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip.
