Oregon whitewater - Fall Creek, Central Cascade Range, Lane County
Lane
county,
Portland Creek to Fall Creek Reservoir section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III-IV 8 miles
Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Oregon tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The Portland Creek to Fall Creek Reservoir section of Fall Creek is 8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here
you'll find a large number of good spots. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system,
there are a few others too. The beautiful scenery of Lane County and the water flowing gracefully down Fall Creek beats anything. The wild scenery of the Central Cascade Range is great. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect for a one day trip.
Briefly about the general area: On a wonderful day at Fall Creek you can take a hike along the Johnny Creek Nature Trail; the Cowhorn Trail is a fine hiking trail nearby. High temperatures at Fall
Creek during the summer months are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's with temperatures at Fall Creek dipping down into the 30's throughout winter nights. Fall Creek is a reasonably
wet place typically with lots of rainfall; the month with most of the rain is November; the driest month of the year is July. And if that's not enough there's a lot more cool stuff to do in the Central Cascade Range.
