The Riverside City Park to Elgin stretch of Grande Ronde River is 32 miles long and it is classified as a class I section by American Whitewater. The put-in is not too far from La Grande, as you can see on the road map further down. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. There's camping available

Briefly about the general area: There is a great hiking trail in the vicinity of Grande Ronde River called the Hale Spring Trail, and you're sure to encounter some cheerful people
from Imbler here. Spout Springs is a great local ski area; nearby you discover the Evans Trail which is a glorious hiking trail. This river has so much to offer. Grande Ronde River is pretty dry regularly. The month with
most of the snow is January; the driest month is July. High temperatures at Grande Ronde River during the summer months are in the 80's, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's.
