The nature scenery of Lane County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Oregon are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. There are no other sections to paddle along Horse Creek than the above Separation Creek to McKenzie River section. Whitewater paddling here in the Central
Cascade Range is a great experience. The above Separation Creek to McKenzie River stretch of Horse Creek in Lane County is 11 miles long and has been rated as a class III section by American Whitewater. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack
your camping stuff. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
Briefly about the general area: Through the summertime months at Horse Creek highs are mostly in the 80's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 40's. Throughout the wintertime the
highs are mostly in the 40's; overnight lows in the 20's for Horse Creek. This place, the Central Cascade Range, has so much outdoors cool stuff. Hiking along the Frissell Point Trail is splendid fun. Foley Hot Springs is a great local attraction, and do take a hike on the
Saddle Trail. Horse Creek sees pretty high levels of precipitation; December is the month that gets the most rain, and July is the month with the least moisture.
