Oregon whitewater - Illinois River, Coast Ranges, Josephine County
Josephine
county,
Highway 199 to Miami Bar section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III 17 miles
The natural beauty of Josephine County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Oregon is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The river winds through the Coast Ranges and you get great scenery. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it
an overnighter, so why not pack your camping stuff too. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a
large number of other places. The Highway 199 to Miami Bar section of Illinois River in Oregon is 17 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. If you're coming from Grants Pass it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
