Oregon whitewater - Illinois River, Coast Ranges, Josephine County
Josephine
county,
Highway 199 to Miami Bar section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III 17 miles
This stretch of Illinois River is 17 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The put-in is not too far from Grants Pass, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Highway 199 to Miami
Bar section is one of them. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camping stuff. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The wonderful Josephine County scenery and
the cool fresh water beats anything. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The beautiful Coast Ranges scenery is an added bonus. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other spots.
