The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Grants Pass, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Oregon are often tougher than in other states, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The nature scenery of Oregon and the playfulness of the water beats anything. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
The beauty of the Coast Ranges is a great plus for this river. This stretch of Illinois River in Oregon is 17 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has
a pretty small number of paddling rivers. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Highway 199 to Miami Bar section is one of them. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.

generally in the 40's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Illinois River. A good deal of rainfall falls at Illinois River; most of the rain falls through December, and the driest of the months is July. A splendid spot to explore in close proximity to Illinois River is Alder Gulch.
