This stretch of Illinois River in Josephine / Curry County is 31 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV(V) section. The average Oregon whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Great exercise and a chance to
spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Now this is a pretty long section, so better bring your camping gear along. The natural
beauty of Oregon and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. The beauty of the Coast Ranges is a great plus for this river. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.
Briefly about the general area: Going for a hike along the Illinois River Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this region, and Deadman Bar is a good place to stop at. So much cool stuff to do in the Coast Ranges, not enough time. While
you're here at Illinois River you can take a hike along the Bear Camp Trail. Illinois River commonly gets lots of rain; December is the wettest month with most rain; the driest month of the year is July. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Illinois River
while overnight lows are usually in the 50's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 50's while Illinois River nighttime low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 30's.
