The NF300 to Cover Camp stretch of Jackson Creek is 8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV(V) section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Oregon is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The Southern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. The
nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The NF300 to Cover Camp stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system.
On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. The wonderful Douglas County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Jackson Creek make the trip here worthwhile.
Briefly about the general area: Near Jackson Creek you discover the North and South Trail which is a good hiking trail, and a cool spot to check out is Cow Horn Arch. Jackson Creek highs are regularly in the 80's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's with temperatures at Jackson Creek dipping down into the 30's during winter nights. Jackson Creek sees pretty high levels of precipitation; through the month of November you get the most rain around here while July is typically the driest month.
