The natural beauty of Grant County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Oregon you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance
then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The Dale to Monument stretch of John Day River - North Fork is 44 miles long and it is classified as a class II section by American Whitewater. A stretch this long is of course too much
for a one day trip, so it looks like you will be camping out. The beautiful Blue Mountains scenery is an added bonus. There are no other stretches to paddle along John Day River - North Fork than the Dale to Monument stretch.
