The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Oregon are often more challenging than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The wild scenery of the Central Cascade Range is great. The Leaburg Dam to Hayden Bridge stretch of McKenzie River in Oregon is 24 miles long and is a class II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. You might be into whitewater     rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. There are no other sections to paddle along McKenzie River than the Leaburg Dam to Hayden Bridge section. The campgrounds here at McKenzie River are pretty good. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camping stuff. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The starting point is not too far from Eugene-Springfield, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at McKenzie River through the months of summer are in the 80's.   Through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 50's. Highs during the winter are frequently in the 40's, and through the dark hours in the winter at McKenzie River temperatures fall to the 30's. McKenzie River is a wet place that gets much precipitation; the month of December is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month of the year is July.
