Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Oregon is often tougher than elsewhere, so better not forget that many runs in this state are not easy. The Olallie Campground to Leaburg Dam stretch of McKenzie River is 40.7 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. Great exercise and spending
some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. The river winds through the Central Cascade Range and you get great scenery. Since you're
on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The beautiful scenery of Lane County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle.
Briefly about the general area: On a fine day at McKenzie River you can take a hike along the Gold Hill Trail. McKenzie River
regularly gets a great deal of precipitation; throughout the month of November you get the most rain around here while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. At McKenzie River during the summer months highs are in the 70's. Once the sun is down it plunges down
to the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's, and overnight lows throughout the wintertime for McKenzie River tend to be in the 30's.
