The Riverside Forest Campground to Lake Billy Chinook section of Metolius River in Jefferson County is 28.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Bend, as you can see on the road map further down. The natural beauty of Jefferson County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places for that around here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll
have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The campgrounds here at Metolius River are pretty good. This is the only paddling section along Metolius River. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so
go ahead and pack your camping stuff. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. The average Oregon whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so better not forget that many runs in this state are not easy. When you're paddling down a Central Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too.
