county,
Riverside Forest Campground to Lake Billy Chinook section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III-IV 28.5 miles
The wonderful Oregon scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch of Metolius River in Jefferson County is 28.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. If you're coming from Bend it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more.
The Riverside Forest Campground to Lake Billy Chinook stretch is the only paddling stretch along Metolius River. When you're paddling down a Central Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Oregon tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too.
