Nehalem is great for tubing, summer. Dont keep valuables in cars while on the river Kkayaked last two years in mid june and itwas fun, nice camping. The road becomes gravel part way. Watch for log trucks! Wear a helmet. Lots of flooding this winter with new washouts and logs. Says Frank Peper...Astoria
The river gets very low in the late summer months (July August and September), and is wild and high in the winter. The difficulty of this river is very much dependant on the time of year. My fav river. :) sorry, no pic to add. Says Molly
The
natural beauty of Oregon and the cool fresh water have people coming here. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Astoria, as you can see on the road map further down. The Spruce Run Park to Nehalem Falls section of Nehalem River in Oregon is 14.2 miles long and is according
to American Whitewater a class III section of whitewater. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. There's camping available near Nehalem River. The wild scenery of the Coast
Ranges is great. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling rivers. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you
might end up sleeping in your car. The Spruce Run Park to Nehalem Falls stretch is the only paddling stretch along Nehalem River.
