CLASS III 14.2 miles
The river gets very low in the late summer months (July August and September), and is wild and high in the winter. The difficulty of this river is very much dependant on the time of year. My fav river. :) sorry, no pic to add. Says Molly
Nehalem is great for tubing, summer. Dont keep valuables in cars while on the river Kkayaked last two years in mid june and itwas fun, nice camping. The road becomes gravel part way. Watch for log trucks! Wear a helmet. Lots of flooding this winter with new washouts and logs. Says Frank Peper...Astoria
Whitewater
rafting and kayaking in Oregon is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Astoria, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This
stretch of Nehalem River in Oregon is 14.2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. Nehalem River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Spruce Run Park to Nehalem Falls section is the only one. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The beautiful scenery of Oregon and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. Whitewater paddling here in the Coast Ranges is a great experience. Since
you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. There's camping available near Nehalem River. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. If
you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camp stove too.
