This stretch of Nehalem River in Columbia County is 10 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. The scenic beauty of Oregon and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. When you're paddling down a Coast Ranges river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There are campgrounds     quite near the river where you can camp. The Upper Nehalem to Vernonia section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camping stuff. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that.
