This stretch of Nehalem River is 25.9 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I(II) section. The nature scenery of Oregon and the water flowing gracefully down Nehalem River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The beautiful Coast Ranges scenery is an added bonus. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so why
not pack your sleeping bag too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. A bit
of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the warmest time of the year at Nehalem River highs are regularly in the 70's. Through the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 50's. Through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's while Nehalem River
nighttime low temperatures during the winter are in the 30's. The high level of rain makes Nehalem River a pretty wet spot; all through December this area sees the most rain, and July is the month with the least moisture.
