The natural beauty of Malheur County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Oregon tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. Now this is a pretty long section, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. The Rome to Owyhee Reservoir section of Owyhee     River is 65 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling places. Briefly about the general area: At Owyhee River you don’t see much rainfall; most of the snow falls throughout December, and the driest month of the year is July. Summertime brings highs in   the 90's to Owyhee River. During the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 50's. Highs all through the wintertime are regularly in the 30's, and during the dark hours in the wintertime at Owyhee River temperatures descend to the 20's.
