The beautiful scenery of Clackamas County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Roaring River is 3 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The beautiful Central Cascade Range scenery is an added bonus. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Oregon are harder than the national norm, so don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. The Road 4611 to Roaring River Campground section is the only paddling section along Roaring River. Getting some good exercise and just
being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places.
Briefly about the general area: You clearly have to have a thing about the Central Cascade Range. The Fanton Plaza Trail is a fine hiking trail next to Roaring River. All the water falling down from the sky makes Roaring River a wet place; December is the month that gets the most rain while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation. The Narrows is
a perfect site to have a look at nearby; if the weather is nice, you can go for a hike along the Dry Ridge Trail. All through the long summer days at Roaring River temperatures are mostly in the 70's, and the nighttime is a little chillier of course, regularly in the 50's. All through the winter highs are commonly in the 40's; overnight lows all through the wintertime for Roaring River tend to be in the 30's.
