Oregon whitewater - Roaring River, Central Cascade Range, Clackamas County
Clackamas
county,
Road 4611 to Roaring River Campground section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III-IV 3 miles
This stretch of Roaring River is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. The average Oregon whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. This is the only paddling stretch along Roaring River. The natural beauty of Oregon and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting
or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping
in your car. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is a pretty short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The wild scenery of the Central Cascade Range is great.
Briefly about the general area: There's great hiking along the Dry Ridge Trail, and The Narrows is a magnificent place to spend some time. Roaring River is a quite wet place frequently with a good deal of precipitation; of all the months in a year December is the one with the most rain while July is frequently the driest month.
You just can't envision the amount of outdoors exciting stuff the Central Cascade Range has to offer. The Fanton Plaza Trail offers hiking at its best. Through the summertime at Roaring River highs are commonly in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the
50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's, and throughout the dark hours in the winter at Roaring River temperatures fall to the 30's.
