Oregon whitewater - Rock Creek, Central Cascade Range, Douglas County
Douglas
county,
Above Rock Creek Fish Hatchery section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS V+ 5 miles
The Above Rock Creek Fish Hatchery stretch of Rock Creek is 5 miles long and is a class V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Oregon and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. Rock Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Above Rock Creek Fish Hatchery
section is the only one. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The wild scenery of the Central Cascade
Range is great. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: Rock Creek usually gets a good deal of rain; November is when you get the most rain here, and July is the month with the least moisture. Interesting geology is available here; Chimney Rock is in close proximity
to Rock Creek; why not take a refreshing hike along the Rock Creek Trail. And that's not all there is to do here in the Central Cascade Range. During the summertime months, highs regularly are in the 70's at Rock Creek, and throughout summer nights temperatures are in the 50's.
