This section of Rogue River in Oregon is 2 miles long and is a class II-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The Above Nugget Falls to Gold Hill Boat Ramp section is the only paddling section along Rogue River. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Whitewater paddling here in the Siskiyou Mountains is a great experience. Getting your paddling muscles activated
and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. The starting location is a short drive from Medford, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The wonderful Jackson County scenery and the cool fresh water are
reasons enough to come here and paddle. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other rivers.
Briefly about the general area: All through the summer months highs here at Rogue River reach the 70's. For the duration of the
moonlight hours it's regularly in the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's, and night lows in the 30's for Rogue River. Rogue River is a good place of normal rain; through November this area sees the most rain, and July is when it's the driest.
Having a nice time in the Siskiyou Mountains is simple. Since you're here at Rogue River why not stop at Water Gulch, and Dillon Falls is a nice local attraction.
