Oregon whitewater - Rogue River, Coast Ranges, Josephine/Curry County
Josephine/Curry
county,
Grave Creek to Foster Bar section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III 34 miles
The put-in is not too far from Grants Pass, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Josephine/Curry County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Rogue River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. This stretch of Rogue River is 34 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. This is the only paddling stretch along Rogue River. No matter if you're
whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good places for that around here. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. The average whitewater rafting
or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. Whitewater paddling here in the Coast Ranges is a great experience. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the summertime at Rogue River highs are commonly in the 70's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 50's.
During the wintertime this place gets highs in the 50's with temperatures at Rogue River dipping down into the 30's all through winter nights. Montana Spring is a perfect local attraction, and do take a hike on the Bear Camp Trail. And if that's not enough there's a lot more
fun stuff to do in the Coast Ranges. Rogue River gets a lot of water; December is the wettest month with most rain while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
