Josephine/Curry
county,
Grave Creek to Foster Bar section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III 34 miles
This section of Rogue River in Josephine/Curry County is 34 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Grants Pass, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The beautiful scenery of Josephine/Curry County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. When you're paddling down
a Coast Ranges river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other places for that. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is the only paddling section along Rogue River.
