Oregon whitewater - Salt Creek, Central Cascade Range, Lane County
Lane
county,
McCredie Hot Springs to Rigdon Road Bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III-IV 7.2 miles
The beautiful scenery of Lane County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. This stretch of Salt Creek is 7.2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Oregon
are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The McCredie Hot Springs to Rigdon Road Bridge stretch is the only paddling stretch along Salt Creek. Whitewater paddling here in the Central Cascade Range is
a great experience. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Salt Creek usually tend to be in the 80's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 50's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the
30's to Salt Creek. Coming to this river is always a good idea. Be careful coming to the Central Cascade Range, you might not ever wanna go home again. Monteith Rock is a good location to take a look at while in the neighborhood, and on a fine day you can take a hike along
the Bunchgrass Trail. No need to travel far to stop by out of the ordinary stuff like Baby Rock, and there is a pleasant hiking trail nearby called the Gobel Creek Trail. All the water falling down from the sky makes Salt Creek a wet place; all through November this area sees the most rain, and July is when it's the driest.
