This stretch of Sandy River in Clackamas County is 13.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The average Oregon whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The natural beauty of Clackamas County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. added bonus. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Lolo Pass Road to Marmot Dam stretch is just one of many. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so pack your camp
stove. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area: Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Central Cascade Range. Don't leave Sandy River without first going for a hike along the Arrah Wanna Trail, and pleasant hiking is available along the Plaza Trail. Through the summertime
months at Sandy River highs are regularly in the 70's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's with temperatures at Sandy River dipping down into the 30's during winter nights. Sandy River is a quite wet place regularly with a great deal of precipitation; most of the rain falls during December; the driest month is July.
