Lolo Pass Road to Marmot Dam section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III 13.5 miles
The Lolo Pass Road to Marmot Dam section of Sandy River is 13.5 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Oregon and the water flowing gracefully down Sandy River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The beautiful Central Cascade Range scenery is an added bonus. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can
be paddled as well. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your sleeping bag. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you
might end up sleeping in your car. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Sandy River all through the warmest time of the year are in the 70's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's ordinarily in the 50's. Highs during the winter are commonly in the 40's, and night lows in the 30's for Sandy River. If the weather is
fine here at Sandy River, you can go for a hike along the Arrah Wanna Trail, and the Plaza Trail is a good hiking trail close by. And if that's not enough there's loads more cool things to do in the Central Cascade Range. Sandy River is a relatively wet place regularly with lots of precipitation; during the month of December you get the most rain around here, and the driest of the months is July.
