The wonderful Oregon scenery and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Elkhorn Valley Campground to North Santiam River section is just one of them. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't     forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Albany-Lebanon, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Whitewater paddling here in the Central Cascade Range is a great experience. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill   up quick. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's, and after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Santiam River - Little North plunge into the 30's.
