Oregon whitewater - Siuslaw River, Coast Ranges, Lane County Lane county, Lake Creek to Close to Mapleton section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-III     6.5 miles   The Lake Creek to Close to Mapleton stretch of Siuslaw River is 6.5 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Lane County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Oregon is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. Siuslaw River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Lake Creek to Close to Mapleton section is the only one.     There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places for that around here. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. The river winds through the Coast Ranges and you get great scenery. Briefly about the general area: Rock Canyon is a magnificent site to spend some time at. Summertime highs at Siuslaw River generally tend to be in the 60's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 40's. High temperatures   all through the winter are normally in the 50's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Siuslaw River dip into the 30's. The high level of rainfall makes Siuslaw River a pretty wet place; the month of December is the wettest with most of the rain, and July meanwhile is the driest month.
