The nature scenery of Deschutes County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The put-in location is a short drive from Bend, as you can see on the road map further down.
Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The river winds through the Central Cascade Range and you get
great scenery. This is the only paddling stretch along Squaw Creek. This section of Squaw Creek is 6.5 miles long and it is classified as a class IV+ section by American Whitewater. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that.
Briefly about the general area: Be careful coming to the Central Cascade Range, you might not ever want to return home again. Black Pine Spring is an inspiring site to go to while you're here. The high level of rain makes Squaw Creek a relatively wet spot; most of the snow falls during
December, and July is the month with the least moisture. All through the warm days of summer at Squaw Creek temperatures are ordinarily in the 70's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 40's. All through the winter the highs are generally in the 30's; nighttime lows
all through the wintertime for Squaw Creek tend to be in the 10's. Don't leave Squaw Creek without first paying a visit to Melvin Spring, and do take a hike on the Three Creek Lake Trail.
