The wonderful Oregon scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The City Creek to Steamboat Falls stretch of Steamboat Creek in Oregon is 9.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II+(IV) section. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but
you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the City Creek to Steamboat Falls section is one of them. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area
has a large number of paddling spots. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The Central Cascade Range scenery is wonderful.
Briefly about the general area: It's always tremendous to stop at Steamboat Falls; hiking along the Deception Way is perfect fun. Summer brings highs in the 70's to Steamboat Creek. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's regularly
in the 40's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's; winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Steamboat Creek. That right there is a load of fun stuff already but it goes on, the Central Cascade Range has it all. All the water falling down from the sky makes Steamboat Creek a wet location; of all the months in a year November is the one with the most rain while July is ordinarily the driest month.
