Oregon whitewater - Umpqua River, Coast Ranges, Douglas County

Douglas county, Sawyers Rapids section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III     2.3 miles
This section of Umpqua River is 2.3 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Roseburg, as you can see on the road map further down. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Oregon is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The wonderful
Oregon scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Umpqua River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number of other spots. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time
in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. This is a somewhat short section so better bring some good walking shoes. When you're paddling down a Coast Ranges river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
