Oregon whitewater, Umpqua River

Douglas county, Sawyers Rapids section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III     2.3 miles
The scenic beauty of Douglas County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. If you're coming from Roseburg it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you wonít get lost. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general
area you won't find many other paddling places. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is a short paddling stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. There arenít any hotels right
nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The river winds through the Coast Ranges and you get great scenery. The Sawyers Rapids stretch of Umpqua River in Douglas County is 2.3 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The average Oregon whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be
harder to run than those in other states, so keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The Sawyers Rapids section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system.
