  The natural beauty of Douglas County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. The Canyonville Park to Lawson Bar section of Umpqua River - South is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Roseburg, as you can see on the road map further down. Lodging is available near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Oregon is often tougher than elsewhere, so don't forget
    that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. Getting a good workout and
just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. Whitewater paddling here in the Coast Ranges is a great experience. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too.

At Umpqua River - South through the long summer days highs are in the 80's; the overnight is quite colder of course, mostly in the 50's. All through the winter highs are generally in the 40's; overnight lows in the 30's for Umpqua River - South. Why
 
not take a refreshing hike along the South Fork Trail.
Umpqua River - South is a wet place that gets a great deal of rainfall; during December this area sees the most rain; the driest month is July.
