The scenic beauty of Douglas County and the water flowing gracefully down Umpqua River - South are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This section of Umpqua River - South is 9 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. If you're coming from Roseburg it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. Since you're
on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are not so many other good rivers for that around here. The Lawson Bar to Myrtle Ck section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking
here in Oregon are often tougher than in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. The wild scenery of the Coast Ranges is great. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
