The starting location is a short drive from City of The Dalles, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch of White River in Wasco County is 0.25 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you
might end up sleeping in your car. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. This is an extremely short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The campgrounds here at White River are pretty good. The scenic
beauty of Oregon and the water flowing gracefully down White River have people coming here. The Celestial Falls stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system.
Briefly about the general area: White River is a location that is relatively waterless commonly; December is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month is July. All through the long summer days, highs typically are in the 80's at White River with nighttime lows in the 40's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at White River are in the 20's. A tremendous site in the neighborhood of White River is Tygh Valley; folks from City of The Dalles love to come here.
