Pennsylvania whitewater - Big Run, Lawrence County Lawrence county, Savannah Road to Shenango River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III-IV     1.5 miles   If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Pennsylvania you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. The Savannah Road to Shenango River section of Big Run is 1.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. The beautiful scenery of Pennsylvania and the water flowing gracefully down Big Run are reasons enough     to come here and paddle. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This section is quite short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Big Run doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Savannah Road to Shenango River stretch is the only one. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: Through the days of summer here at Big Run, high temperatures mostly reach the 80's, and the nighttime is a little cooler of course, regularly in the 50's. For the duration of the winter this place gets highs in the 30's while Big Run overnight low temperatures all through the wintertime are in the 10's.
