The nature scenery of Monroe County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you're coming from East Stroudsburg it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places.
Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Pennsylvania is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. This stretch is long enough for an overnight
trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. The Canadensis to mouth stretch of Brodhead Creek is 21.2 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Brodhead Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Canadensis to mouth stretch is the only one.
Briefly about the general area: The snow is nice at Alpine Mountain. For the period of the summer months, highs ordinarily
are in the 70's at Brodhead Creek. Summer overnight lows drop down to the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 20's; night lows in the 10's for Brodhead Creek. Brodhead Creek is a relatively wet place ordinarily with a great deal of rain; May is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month is February.
