Susquehanna River section of Chest Creek in Cambria/Clearfield County is 34 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-III section. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The starting location is a short drive from Johnstown, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There aren’t     any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so it looks like you will be camping out. The LR11038 to West Br. Susquehanna River section is the only paddling section along Chest Creek. The scenic beauty of Pennsylvania and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Chest Creek is a good spot of common rainfall; during June   this area sees the most rain, and the driest month is January. Summertime at Chest Creek arrives with high temperatures in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 20's with temperatures at Chest Creek dipping down into the 10's through winter nights.
