The starting location is a short drive from Johnstown, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. The wonderful Pennsylvania scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in     advance because these hotels fill up quick. There's camping available near Clear Shade Creek. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. Clear Shade Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Crum Road to Shade Creek stretch is the only one. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners.
