Pennsylvania whitewater - Connoquenessing Creek, Beaver County
Beaver
county,
Calgon to 2nd treatment plant section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III 6 miles
Hi, an update on this trip... the take-out listed seems to be the old hydro plant in Ellwood City. The trail is very overgrown and the road is another three hundred or so yards carry uphill to the road. The better trip is to continue down the Connie to just under the new bridge (5th street) and take out at the old water treatment plant. You can park close to the water (ask first) on the access road and if you park the shuttle vehicle right can see it from the water. This would add only a few more minutes to the trip. There is a new outfitter on the water
there too, Keystone Sojourns is opening a shop in Ellport for canoe & kayak rentals and they offer a shuttle service too. Phone # is 724-713-2093. Good paddling, Dave Says Dave McQuaid
The starting point is not too far from New Castle, if you're not familiar with the area
there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The beautiful scenery of Pennsylvania and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. You can pitch a tent
or park your RV at a nearby campground. There are some good hotels near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Calgon to 2nd treatment plant section is the only paddling section along Connoquenessing Creek. You might be into whitewater
rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. This stretch of Connoquenessing Creek is 6 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section.
