  Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. This section of Deer Creek is 3.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II(III) section. The natural beauty of Pennsylvania and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. Deer Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Shippenville to Clarion River section is the only one. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but
    you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. The campgrounds here at Deer Creek are pretty good. The starting location is a short drive from Oil City, as
you can see on the road map further down. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times.

Briefly about the general area:
The high level of rain makes Deer Creek a reasonably wet place; most of the rain falls all through July, and the driest month is February.
All through the days of summer highs here at Deer Creek reach the 80's, and throughout the night it cools down to the 50's. High temperatures during the wintertime are normally in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Deer Creek are in the 10's.
