Pennsylvania whitewater - Elk Creek, Sullivan County Sullivan county, Lincoln Falls to Loyalsock Creek section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     4.7 miles   Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Pennsylvania are easier than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. This stretch of Elk Creek in Sullivan County is 4.7 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The put-in is not too far from Sayre, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling rivers. Not too many     hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are no other stretches to paddle along Elk Creek than the Lincoln Falls to Loyalsock Creek stretch. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The natural beauty of Sullivan County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. Briefly about the general area: Elk Creek gets a typical amount of rainfall; June is the month that gets the most rain, and the driest month of the year is January. Don't leave Elk Creek without first paying a visit to Lincoln Falls, and if the weather is fine, you can go for a hike along the Trout Hill Trail. Near Elk Creek you discover Painter Hollow which   is a wonderful location to have a look at, and on a great day you can take a hike along the Middle Hill Trail. This is a really good river. For the period of the summer months at Elk Creek highs are generally in the 80's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 60's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Elk Creek.
