The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Erie, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch of Elk Creek is 13 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. The natural beauty of Pennsylvania and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come     here to paddle. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is the only paddling section along Elk Creek. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Elk Creek through the days of summer are in the 70's with nighttime lows in the 60's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Elk Creek are in the 10's.
