Pennsylvania whitewater - Elk Creek, Erie County Erie county, Route 98 to Lake Erie section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     13 miles   If you're coming from Erie it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Pennsylvania are often more forgiving than in other states, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The campgrounds here at Elk Creek are pretty good. This stretch of Elk Creek is 13 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either     way this area has a pretty small number of paddling spots. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Route 98 to Lake Erie section is the only paddling section along Elk Creek. The beautiful scenery of Erie County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. Briefly about the general area: Elk Creek gets a normal amount of annual precipitation; the wettest month of the year is frequently September, that's the one that rains the most, and January on the other hand is the driest. All through the long summer days at Elk Creek temperatures are usually   in the 70's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's ordinarily in the 60's. Through the winter highs are in the 30's; after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at Elk Creek descend into the 10's.
