The average Pennsylvania whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be easier to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The wonderful Westmoreland/Fayette County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Jacobs Creek will make you feel great. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. The Chaintown to Youghiogheny River stretch of Jacobs Creek in Westmoreland/Fayette County is 7.1 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater
to be a class II-III section. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. The put-in location is a short drive from Pittsburgh, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There are
campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more.
