This stretch described above is inside the Ricketts Glen State Park. It is in a natural area and no boating,swimming,fishing or any other active is allowed in the stream (Kitchen Creek). in Luzerne County is 3 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class V+ section. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy.
You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. There are no other sections to paddle along Kitchen Creek than the Route 487 to Route 118 section. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. with more info on that. This is a bit of a short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people.
Briefly about the general area:
It's always tremendous to explore Murray Reynolds Falls, and Glen Leigh Valley is nearby, and is a tremendous location. Summertime highs at Kitchen Creek frequently tend to be in the 80's with overnight lows in the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's with temperatures
at Kitchen Creek dipping down into the 10's during winter nights. A typical amount of rainfall falls here at Kitchen Creek; most of the rain falls through June while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. This river is so wonderful. Sheldon Reynolds Falls is a delightful local attraction, and perfect hiking is available along the Old Bulldozer Road Trail.
